Free Stone Chip Repair in Saskatchewan: Are You Eligible?

If you have an SGI package policy with road hazard glass coverage, your stone chip repairs are free: up to three a year, with no deductible and nothing to fill out. Free stone chip repair in Saskatchewan is one of the most-missed insurance benefits there is. Most drivers are paying for it and never use it.

Here’s how to tell if you qualify and how to get it done.

Who qualifies?

You qualify if you have an SGI package policy (Auto Pak) with road hazard glass coverage. That’s the most common add-on Saskatchewan drivers buy through a broker.

The tell-tale sign is a glass deductible of $50 or $100. If your policy has one, chip repairs are covered on their own, with no deductible at all.

Not sure if you have it?

  • Check your insurance papers for “road hazard glass” or “glass deductible”
  • Ask your insurance broker
  • Ask us: with your plate number, we can check your coverage in minutes

On standard plate coverage alone, chip repairs aren’t covered. They’re still quick and inexpensive, and we’ll give you a cash price.

How many free repairs do you get?

Up to three a year. Each chip counts separately, so you could fix one in March, one in July, and one in November at no cost. The count starts over when your policy renews.

How to get your free repair

  1. Call or walk in. Reach Mike’s Auto Glass at (306) 543-2299, or drop by Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
  2. Bring your registration. It has the plate and customer numbers we need. We confirm your coverage with SGI in minutes.
  3. We fix the chip. Most repairs take 20–30 minutes. We bill SGI directly, so you pay nothing.

No forms, no calling SGI, no waiting for approval.

Why you shouldn’t wait

Few places are harder on windshields than Saskatchewan. Glass freezes overnight, warms up in the afternoon sun, and gets blasted by the defroster on cold mornings. Each swing stresses the chip, and a small one can become a spreading crack within days.

Once a crack is longer than about 15 cm, it can’t be repaired, and you need a full windshield replacement. With a package policy that’s still only your $50–$100 deductible. Without one, it’s $350–$700 or more.

What if the chip has already spread?

If the crack is too long, reaches the edge of the glass, or sits in your line of sight, we’ll recommend a replacement instead. Your package policy still covers it: you pay your deductible, and we file the claim. On 2018+ vehicles, ADAS calibration is included.

Will a chip repair affect my rates?

No. A chip from a rock is a road hazard, not an at-fault incident, so it doesn’t touch your SGI safety rating or premiums. Here’s why glass claims don’t affect your rates.

No package policy?

A chip repair is still one of the cheapest fixes in auto glass, and far cheaper than the windshield you’ll need if it spreads. It’s also worth asking your broker about adding road hazard glass coverage. Over a year, it often costs less than a single out-of-pocket windshield. Our package policy vs standard plates guide explains the difference.
