How SGI Auto Glass Claims Work in Regina (2026 Guide)

Got a cracked windshield or broken glass in Regina? For most damage, there’s surprisingly little for you to do. With SGI auto glass claims, the glass shop deals with SGI for you, and you pay only your deductible.

This guide covers it all: the three kinds of coverage, what each costs, how each type of glass is handled, and what to bring.

The one thing most drivers don’t know

For windshield replacements and stone chip repairs, you don’t call SGI and you don’t file anything yourself. The shop confirms your coverage, opens the claim, and bills SGI for everything above your deductible. SGI also asks drivers not to file glass-only claims through eClaim.

Your part: hand over your registration details and show up for your appointment.

Your coverage, and what you’ll pay

Every vehicle in Saskatchewan has glass coverage. Which kind you have sets your out-of-pocket cost.

CoverageGlass deductibleWhat the shop needs from you
SGI package policy (Auto Pak)$50 or $100, plus up to 3 free chip repairs a yearPolicy number, customer number, plate number, date of loss
Standard SGI plates$700Customer number, plate number, date of loss
Third-party add-on (Sandbox, CAA, Co-operators, etc.)Varies, usually well under $700All of the above, plus your third-party policy number and a claim number if your provider requires one

Package policy. Extra coverage bought through a broker, and the best you can have for glass. Most drivers who insured through a broker have one. Not sure? We can look it up from your plate number. The full comparison is in our post on package policy vs standard plates.

Standard plates. Comes with every registration. A claim is worth it when the total tops $700, which is common on 2018+ vehicles that need ADAS calibration. On older vehicles, cash may cost about the same, and we’ll tell you honestly.

Third-party. These policies cover part of the gap between your own deductible and SGI’s $700. We bill both SGI and your provider. Some providers want you to get a claim number first, so check with them before you call us.

How each type of glass is handled

Windshield replacement. The simplest claim. You don’t file anything: we confirm your coverage, replace the windshield, and bill SGI. You pay your deductible.

Stone chip repair. Same process. With a package policy, chip repairs are free, up to three a year.

Door and quarter glass. You usually open the claim with SGI yourself. Because door glass often costs less than $700, paying directly is frequently cheaper. A claim makes more sense if there’s extra damage, like a broken window regulator or items stolen in a break-in. If you pay first and find more damage later, keep your receipt and photos.

Back glass. SGI needs the claim opened, and usually reviewed by an adjuster, before work starts. The cause of the damage decides what’s covered and which deductible applies. You can also pay first and submit the invoice to SGI if the claim is approved. Our back glass page walks through it.

Will a claim affect my rates?

No. SGI’s Safe Driver Recognition program only penalizes at-fault collisions and traffic convictions. A rock in your windshield is a road hazard, so your safety rating, premiums, and record stay the same, whatever coverage you claim through. More on glass claims and your SGI rates.

What about ADAS calibration?

Most vehicles from 2018 on have a camera behind the windshield for lane-keeping, emergency braking, and adaptive cruise. After a new windshield, it must be recalibrated, which adds $300–$500 or more if you pay cash.

Through SGI, calibration is part of the claim. That’s why a claim usually pays off on a newer vehicle, even with the $700 deductible. Read more about ADAS calibration after windshield replacement.

What to bring

Your registration card has almost everything:

  • Package policy: policy number, customer number, plate number, date of loss
  • Standard plates: customer number, plate number, date of loss
  • Third-party: all of the above, plus your third-party policy number and claim number if needed

Tip: snap a photo of your registration so you always have it on your phone.

Choosing a shop

You can take your vehicle to any SGI-approved glass shop. You’re not tied to one. When you compare, look for a shop that:

  • Files the claim for you, start to finish
  • Offers same-day service
  • Does ADAS calibration in-house
  • Gives you a straight answer on claim vs cash

Mike’s Auto Glass does all four.

The short version

For most glass damage in Regina, the shop files the claim, confirms your coverage, does the work, and bills SGI. You pay your deductible and drive away. No calling SGI, no paperwork, and no effect on your rates.
